How is Cardiac Calcium Scoring performed?

You will be asked to lie down on your back and will be scanned in our new high-speed CAT Scanner. A special scan is taken of your heart during one breath hold, lasting about 20 seconds. This procedure requires no injections, treadmills or any other preparation such as fasting.

The information obtained will then be subjected to a computer assisted analysis with special cardiac scoring software that measures the amount of calcium in your coronary arteries.  The information will be sent to you and your doctor for further consultation.

PLEASE NOTE THAT Screening CT examinations are not intended to take the place of your usual routine doctor's evaluations, but  rather to give you and your doctor additional information on which to base  lifestyle change and treatment  decisions.

NOTE:  Because this is a screening test for patients without symptoms, it usually is not covered by insurance.  However, if you are having symptoms of heart or  lung disease, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, chronic cough, or coughing blood, contact your doctor immediately for an evaluation. If your doctor orders a lung CT scan with and without contrast, we will perform cardiac  calcium scoring at no additional charge.
